Nope that's not snow, but Carrera marble quarry from the town of . . . Carrera, which is about 30 minutes away from where we started in Vernazza. Yup, the same marble that Michelangelo's David was created from.We couldn't come all this way and not get a little souvenir, so we stopped at a small roadside shop and picked up a slab. We probably could have gotten the same thing in the US, but it really wouldn't have been the same. The quarries are absolutely huge - considering they have been taking marble out of these quarries for 2000 years, there is no sign of them running out anytime soon.
